Not so New Year
I’m sure I am not alone with the sentiment that today doesn’t truly feel like the beginning of a new year.  Despite the brand new calendar page, the endless year-in-review shows, and of course the numerous newspaper, television and radio advertisements for clearances and sales, for me the new year began in August.

August 21st  began the new school year for my three daughters.   In New Year fashion, I began that day with resolutions – wake up early and exercise, pack healthy lunches, don’t yell and be productive while they’re gone.  That day I cleaned and organized, and yes celebrated; and not for the first time.  In the days leading up to the first day of the new school year there were mom’s night outs, lunches and cocktails, and even a back-to-school pool party.  It was truly the start of something new to rejoice.  As I waved goodbye to my kids leaving for their first day, the last time they would all be walking to the same school, I felt the excitement that I hoped they felt, despite their complaints to me.  I’m well aware they save this special treatment for me.

Now, January first is upon us and in an effort to appreciate the actual new year, I’ve chosen today to launch this blog.  I’d been hesitant to start in the past but as I’ve joined the community of writers from Twitter, and more recently The Wild Rose Press, I decided to dive in and thought what better day to begin than today.  So, here goes - I resolve to update regularly, but not obsessively and only when I have something meaningful to offer, and only after I’ve exercised that morning (see first day of school resolution).

I wish you all a Happy New Year – or continuation of the 2013-2014 school year, whatever works for you.

Thanks for stopping by,

Ally

  1. Great post, Ally. After raising three daughters of my own for years...and years, and years... I'm now raising my oldest granddaughter. Wow- I'd forgotten what it felt like to get up at the crack of dawn to get an 8yo out the door! Of course, I wouldn't change a thing, but I do relish those days when she's home or at one or the other of her parents' and I can sleep past 0 dark-thirty. Or at least past eight. The horses and goat complain VERY loudly if I'm much later than that. lol

Congrats on your new contract and this pretty-in-pink blog! Very nicely designed. Good luck with your writing and resolutions. I need to set up an exercise schedule of some sort. :)

  4. Best of luck to you. I'm too busy trying to pack for a move to Missouri. Not leaving until Feb. but I can only do a little at a time. I write, pack a box, write, pack a box...When I get moved I'll write, unload a box, write...you get the picture.
Glad you've joined us Roses. I've been with them just over a year. Second book is with editor.
